Where is Boracay Located?
Boracay is an island in the Philippines. It’s located just northwest of Panay Island in the Visayas — the central group of islands in the Philippines. The most famous part of the island is White Beach, which stretches for 3.5 kilometers on the west coast. As its namesake suggests, White Beach offers a soft expanse of fine white sand and is considered the world’s best tropical beach.
The easiest way to get to Boracay is to fly to Caticlan, a nearby island, then take a quick boat ride to Boracay. The flight from Manila takes about 36 minutes and the boat to Boracay is only about 15 minutes. Alternatively, you can fly to Kalibo, a second airport also located on Panay island. If you take this alternative, you will have to drive approximately two hours north to Catkclan to catch a boat to Boracay. There is no airport on Boracay itself. There are ample vans, buses and rental vehicles in Kalibo to transport you to Caticlan. During the peak season, this may be your only flight option as reservations tend to fill up quickly.
Once you get to Boracay, there are taxis and tricycles (motorbikes with passenger seats) waiting to transport you to your hotel. Most of the higher end hotels will provide you with a complimentary van.
Getting Around Boracay
There is one Main Road crossing the island’s 7 km length. The other roads that intersect the main road lead you to various beaches, hotels, resorts and other points of interest. Most people get around in tricycles though air conditioned cabs and vans are also available.
